Starting Over: Your Best Chapter Begins Today

starting over at 52

Life can knock you down, but starting over is strength. Discover how faith, resilience, and kindness can lead you into your greatest chapter yet.

There comes a moment in life when you realize something powerful.

You can either carry the past like a backpack full of bricks…
or you can set it down and walk forward lighter.

Most people assume starting over happens once or twice in a lifetime.
But the truth is, for many of us who refuse to quit, starting over becomes part of the journey.

And I’ll be honest with you.

I’ve started over more times than I can count.

Not once.
Not twice.
But over and over again.

And here I am… starting over again at 52.

Some people hear that and think it sounds exhausting.

But I don’t see it that way.

Because every single time I started over, I became someone stronger, wiser, and more capable than the version of me that existed before.

Life has a way of testing the people who refuse to give up.

There are chapters of my life that very few people know about.
Experiences that I have rarely spoken about out loud.

Losses that took the wind out of my sails.
Moments where the ground beneath my feet disappeared.

Times when I could have chosen bitterness.

Times when I could have chosen to become hardened by life.

Times when it might have been easier to just stop trying.

But that has never been who I am.

I don’t believe in living as a victim.

Not because pain isn’t real.

Not because life hasn’t been unfair at times.

But because the moment you step into the identity of a victim, you hand your power away to the past.

And I refuse to give the past that kind of control.

Instead, I believe in something simple.

If you do good… good will prevail.

Maybe not immediately.

Maybe not on the timeline we expect.

But eventually, goodness finds its way back.

That belief has guided how I live my life.

I treat people with kindness.

I treat people with respect.

When I say I hope you have a great day… I genuinely mean it.

I actually pray for people to have a great day.

Because I believe there is enough sunshine for all of us.

And that’s where things get interesting.

Sometimes the hardest lesson in life is realizing that not everyone thinks the same way you do.

You can be kind to someone.

You can support someone.

You can cheer for someone.

And still find out later that they didn’t want the same good things for you.

That realization can sting.

It can break your heart a little.

But here’s the important part.

Their mindset does not get to become your mindset.

Their bitterness does not get to become your bitterness.

Their shade does not get to block your sunshine.

Because the truth is simple.

There really is enough sunshine for all of us.

Someone else’s success does not reduce your opportunity.

Someone else’s happiness does not take away from your future.

Someone else’s growth does not shrink your path.

The world isn’t a pie with limited slices.

It’s a garden.

And gardens grow best when people water each other’s plants.

Unfortunately, some people choose to throw shade instead.

But shade only works if you choose to stand under it.

You always have the option to step back into the light.

And sometimes stepping back into the light requires something difficult.

Letting go of the past.

Not pretending it didn’t happen.

Not denying that it hurt.

But deciding that it does not get to define the next chapter of your life.

Your past may explain you.

But it does not get to limit you.

I think one of the most dangerous lies people believe is that their life has a deadline for reinvention.

That after a certain age, the story is already written.

That after a certain number of mistakes, losses, or heartbreaks… the best years are behind them.

I simply don’t believe that.

Some of the most extraordinary people in the world didn’t find their real path until later in life.

Colonel Sanders started Kentucky Fried Chicken in his 60s.

Vera Wang didn’t design her first dress until she was 40.

Ray Kroc built McDonald’s into a global brand after age 50.

And there are countless others who discovered that the second half of life was actually the most powerful.

Because they had something younger people didn’t yet have.

Perspective.

Resilience.

Wisdom earned the hard way.

The kind of wisdom that only comes from getting knocked down… and choosing to stand up anyway.

Every restart carries a gift.

You see things more clearly.

You choose people more carefully.

You protect your peace more intentionally.

You stop chasing approval.

You stop trying to prove yourself to people who never planned to understand you.

And you start building a life that actually fits who you are.

For me, starting over again at 52 is not a failure.

It’s a declaration.

It means I’m still growing.

Still evolving.

Still choosing faith over fear.

Still believing that tomorrow can be better than yesterday.

If you’re reading this and you feel like life knocked you down…

Let me tell you something important.

You are not behind.

You are not disqualified.

You are not finished.

You are simply standing at the beginning of a new chapter.

And chapters don’t start with explanations.

They start with decisions.

The decision to move forward.

The decision to forgive the past.

The decision to stop carrying what no longer belongs in your future.

Today could be the day you release everything that has been weighing you down.

The disappointment.

The betrayal.

The regret.

The fear.

Leave it behind.

Because the future in front of you is bigger than anything behind you.

There are still people you haven’t met yet who will love you.

There are still opportunities you haven’t seen yet that will change your life.

There are still moments waiting for you that will remind you why you kept going.

So when someone tells you to have a great day…

Pause for a moment.

Remember that somewhere out there, someone actually means it.

Someone is rooting for you.

Someone believes you can rise again.

And today…

That someone might just be me.

So let’s do something simple.

Let’s choose kindness.

Let’s choose growth.

Let’s choose to stop throwing shade and start sharing sunshine.

Because there is more than enough of it to go around.

And the most beautiful part?

Your best days might still be ahead of you.

Starting today.
